Fremont sits where the East Bay meets Silicon Valley. Two north-south freeways, I-880 and I-680, run through the city, and both connect toward Milpitas and San Jose. For a small business that ships products, serves job sites, or picks up parts across the Bay, that position matters more than the address alone.

Freeway Access

I-880 runs along the bay side of the East Bay, linking Fremont north toward Union City, Hayward, and Oakland, and south toward Milpitas and North San Jose. I-680 runs along the eastern hills, giving another route south to San Jose and north toward the Tri-Valley.

Alameda CTC lists several improvement projects that touch these corridors, including work at the I-680/Mission Blvd (North) interchange, on Auto Mall Pkwy near I-680, and at the I-880/Decoto Rd interchange. Construction can change your daily route, so check current conditions for the trips your team runs most.

Test the routes you actually drive

Drive times in the Bay Area change a lot by hour and direction. Run your real delivery, pickup, and commute routes at the times your team works before committing to any location.

Port of Oakland

The Port of Oakland is the main container gateway for Northern California. It handled 188,517 TEUs in September 2026, up 5.4% from September 2025, with both loaded imports and exports growing. Year to date through September, volume was 1,656,999 TEUs, down 3.5% from 2025.

Loaded imports82,975 TEUs+9.6%
Loaded exports63,299 TEUs+5.3%
Total188,517 TEUs+5.4%

Most small businesses never book a container. But importers, freight forwarders, and drayage carriers that serve the port also serve East Bay warehouses, which helps when you receive palletized freight.

Airport and Parcel Access

WareSpace’s announcement for its Fremont building highlights access toward San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC), San Jose, and Milpitas. For e-commerce sellers, the bigger daily factor is usually carrier pickup windows and how late you can drop off parcels. Ask any location how pickups work and where the nearest carrier facilities are.

If you pack and ship orders, the Bay Area e-commerce warehouse guide covers receiving, packing, and outbound staging.

BART and Workforce Access

BART’s Warm Springs/South Fremont Station opened on March 25, 2017. BART says the station connects with VTA and AC Transit buses, which gives Warm Springs employers a transit option for staff who do not drive. The City of Fremont describes the station as the anchor of the Warm Springs employment hub.

Choosing a Base in Fremont

Map your customers, suppliers, job sites, and employees, then compare each candidate address against that map. The Fremont industrial areas guide explains how Warm Springs, Bayside, and Ardenwood differ.

WareSpace Fremont is coming soon to 47651 Westinghouse Dr in the Warm Springs District, with a Summer 2027 opening window. It is WareSpace’s second Bay Area location, after South San Francisco on the Peninsula.
