If you receive air freight or hand orders to couriers, an address near SFO may cut a regular drive. But a short distance on the map will not tell you where your carrier stops, whether a truck can unload, or when you can get goods into your unit. Check those details before you sign.

SFO’s Cargo Role

SFO reported 541,998 metric tons of loaded and unloaded cargo in FY2025, including 368,582 metric tons of international cargo. The airport’s FY2024 economic study valued goods moving through SFO at about $42.8 billion.

Those figures explain the scale of cargo moving through the airport. They do not tell you whether a carrier serves a particular warehouse address or when your shipment will be ready for pickup.

The US 101 Freight Corridor

Caltrans identifies US 101 as a major north-south route and a primary freight corridor connecting airport facilities and other goods-movement routes. South San Francisco’s East of 101 employment area sits within that operating geography.

Drive from US 101 to the property when your deliveries normally arrive. Check the truck entrance and the route from the shared loading area to your unit, not just the highway exit.

When the Address Helps

  • You collect air freight regularly and need a place to receive and store it.
  • Your parcel or LTL carrier can confirm a pickup at the specific building.
  • Your crew serves customers across the Peninsula and can test the drive from this address.

If none of those trips is part of your week, airport proximity alone is not a reason to pay for a location.

Check the Handoff at the Building

Walk the route your shipment will take. Where does a van or truck stop? Who accepts deliveries when you are away? Is the loading area shared, and can you move goods into your unit with the equipment you use? Confirm access hours, parking, and any restrictions on your materials or vehicles.

Then map the space you need for receiving, storage, and work. The San Francisco small warehouse size guide can help you prepare for a space-fit conversation. For county-level vacancy and rent context, see the San Francisco Peninsula industrial market report.
